Tinnitus Sufferers Should Consider Cancer is a 5,000-word article that first appeared in the July 2025 issue of Mensa Magazine. In the summer of 2024, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, gobbled 112 oxycodone tablets and drank gallons of alcohol over a three-week period, got gutted like a fish, had my right knee replaced, couldn’t find the T.V. remote, and somehow ended up ok (my pancreatic cancer is neuroendocrine type, not adenocarcinoma). Readers found my article funny, interesting, and touching. Along with unflattering reveals about my luminous shortcomings as a human being, I share some newly acquired wisdom about the importance of managing your own health care.
