Have you ever heard the call of a foreign place, tugging at you from afar, whispering ‘This is where you belong’? This panoramic novel begins in 13th-century North Africa and follows a saint’s pilgrimage to a remote corner of the Atlas Mountains that holds baraka, sacred energy. Later, in modern day, the story returns to the same corner of Morocco where a young agnostic Western woman answers the call from afar.
Against the backdrop of a foreign culture, alone as the only Westerner, she risks her marriage, pushes her career as an architect to nontraditional limits, questions raising her young daughter in an Islamic kingdom, uncomfortably uncovers personal prejudices and through moments of paralyzing self doubt painfully, yet excitedly, explores her motivating principles.
The Way is woven from legends, memories and the author’s personal experiences. It takes the reader on a journey of high adventure, love and risk taking. It is a triumphant story that motivates us to contemplate ourselves while fueling our courage and conviction that as women we not only have the right but an obligation to follow our call.
