Life was good. Not only had I lived through the showdown and side order of nearly being erased via my creator’s massive book burning extravaganza, I was now registering as 100% human rather than partially human and partially fictional. I’d even discovered the glories of sleep. Which included Naomie spooned against me, and poised to become Mrs. Farrell sometime in the new year.
Yep. You couldn’t find a more contented fella than me.
Sure, there was still some clean up required in Detroit. Palermo hadn’t surfaced but Solomon Prisk had, and he’d brought far more ghouls with him than was healthy for my town. I’d burned out some magic circuits in what I’m calling The Battle of the Burning Books, so some practice to check what was coming back online in my repertoire sent me out to the grounds previously lorded over by the Amberson Mansion, of which nothing remained but the giant garage. Perfect place to do things normal people can’t do.
Like I’ve ever been normal by anyone’s standards.
But when I passed out during a euphoric reunion with my magic weapon of choice, I woke up to find all was not as well as I’d thought. Not only did I have magic poisoning from housing both demon and Fae hoodoo, I wasn’t out of the fictional woods at all. Seems the universe doesn’t cotton to guys attempting to change their existence classification. I was not only 100% human now, I was still 100% fictional. With that kind of screwy math, there was a choice to make.
One I wasn’t going to enjoy no matter which one I picked.
