This book has been revised and updated. Power With Purpose is a unique contribution to current Christian literature on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Writing from a Pentecostal perspective, the author describes the work and purpose of the Holy Spirit as it relates to our daily lives and the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. He provides a historical framework from which the Pentecostal perspective can be compared with that of the Roman Catholic and mainline Protestant views of the Holy Spirit. But above all, he shows us what the Scriptures teach about this vital subject. Here at last is a balanced perspective of the Holy Spirit that will serve the needs of laity and clergy alike. “This book may well become the standard, even the classic, resource on the Holy Spirit in our generation. It is a worthy candidate for such a happy possibility.”—Charles W. Conn John A. Sims is an ordained minister and educator in the Church of God. He was educated at Lee University, Roosevelt University, and Florida State University where he received the Ph.D. in Religion and the Humanities. The author has studied at Princeton Theological Seminary as a Visiting Fellow, at Harvard University as an NEH Fellow, and Cambridge University as a Visiting Scholar. Dr. Sims taught at Lee University for four decades, serving for five years as Chairman of the Department of Religion. For eight years he served as President of the European Theological Seminary in Germany. He is the author of nine books as well as numerous articles and chapters in other works. He and his wife Pat have three sons, John Patrick, Mark Ivan, and Matthew Ian. They are blessed with five grandchildren (Mary, Megan, David, Isaac, and Noah).
