A journey around the world - The search for freedom in the 1960s Isabel Bruck-Stucky, born in Seville in 1947, Swiss and a teacher, left her homeland at the age of just 18 to teach at the Swiss school in Cairo. Even at a young age, she travelled alone to Aswan and Sudan - curious, courageous and open to the diversity of foreign cultures.
When the school in Cairo closed in 1968, Isabel made a life-changing decision: she followed the call of freedom and set off on a trip around the world without a return ticket. A Japanese friend accompanied her for the first few months, but soon she continued travelling alone - initially following the Hippie Trail, always in search of encounters, adventure and self-discovery.
Four diaries are written during this extraordinary journey - full of personal reflections, gripping stories and authentic impressions of the country and its people. Isabel describes her experiences and thoughts openly and honestly.
She invites the reader to experience with her the intense moments of a generation that is opening up a new world beyond social boundaries.
A book about new beginnings, courage and the discovery of one's own identity in times of change - and a unique contemporary witness to the 1960s.
Now published for the first time - the diaries of a young globetrotter in search of herself and life.
