Munchie the Mantis and the Great Utah Adventure is a heartwarming, funny, and magical desert journey about courage, friendship, and discovering your purpose—perfect for young readers ages 4–8.
Born in the warm sands of western Utah, tiny Munchie hatches with thirty lively mantis siblings, each with their own quirks—from sporty Expressive to wise Gray Fog to cocoa-loving Spriggles. But Munchie is different. Curious, brave, and eager to explore, he leaps out of the egg sac determined to see the world beyond his sandy home.
His adventure begins when he meets Zoot, the fastest jackrabbit in the desert, along with her mate Dommy and their four energetic bunny children. With their help, Munchie learns to run, jump, and trust his instincts. Guided by the mysterious Desert Drift, a glowing magical wind, he is led into the fabled Canyon of Echoes, where dragonflies Widdles, Mo, Aubric, and Averett help him follow a vision.
Deep inside the canyon, Munchie discovers a lonely giant creature trapped in a cavern. Despite being small, Munchie uses his cleverness, courage, and a homemade lever to free the gentle giant—who reveals his name is Boam. The two become instant friends and adventure partners.
Together they uncover a glowing hidden tunnel that leads to Boam’s homeland—a beautiful valley filled with creatures just like him. At the final farewell, Munchie is joined by his hilarious brother Spriggles and friends Mr. Marina, Rebel, Meat Pie, and Nappy, all there to support him with “adventure cocoa.”
Knowing he’ll return, Munchie sends Boam home and steps back toward the canyon—braver, wiser, and ready for whatever the next adventure brings.
Because every explorer knows…
the journey never truly ends.
