Let's Drive! The Road to Greater Independence for the Neurodivergent is the updated and expanded version of the original "The Road to Greater Independence", featuring many new insights gained from the experiences of driver education professionals and parents working with their respective students, compiled and written by Ronald Parrs. Ron is a Master Driving Instructor, Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, and Certified Cognitive Coach. Ron has had the privilege of working with hundreds of neurodiverse students for almost seven years in several different states. Several chapters contain expanded information for all concerned parties (students, parents, educators, instructors, driving school administrators, Occupational Therapists, and others), especially in the areas of Emotional Capacity, Vision concerns and challenges, and working toward the best outcome for the individual student. Let's Drive! is an expanded guide for everyone involved in the driver's education process who also has the privilege of working with those who present as neurodivergent. Throughout the pages, the reader will find pertinent information as well as personal teaching and instruction stories involving real students. Readers will also be exposed to examples of what to do and not do, holding to a philosophy of using an individualized methodology of instruction rather than a "one size fits all" model typically found in driver's education. Let's Drive! would like to see everyone who is able to drive do so, and yet we are realistic in that this may not be the best course of action for the individual neurodivergent student and their respective family. Operating a motor vehicle may not be a realistic option, and questions should be asked and evaluations performed before embarking on this endeavor; therefore, the four potential "Exit Ramps" for all students.
