Jack Smith Final Report: Volume 1: The Election Case (jan 6 evidence)

On January 14, 2025, Special Counsel Jack Smith released his final report just days before president-elect Donald Trump is to return to the White House. After years of investigation into the election interference case, Smith and his team concluded they had gathered enough evidence to convict Trump in trial, if it weren’t for his return to the presidency. The 174-page report was released after a temporary block expired early Tuesday morning. Smith discusses his life-long career as a prosecutor and explains how he and his team conducted their investigation according to department policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure fairness and uniformity of policy. In Volume 1, the report covers the results from the election case, starting with the evidence of the investigation. The second section focuses on the law and violations by the former president at the time. Section three explains why prosecution is necessary, followed by policies and procedures and litigation issues. Finally, in its conclusion, Smith explains why the case must be dismissed, due to the Constitution forbidding the federal indictment and prosecution of a sitting President.
