A stormy night. A seaside inn. And one dead guest.
New innkeeper Maggie Dawson traded her life as a waitress for the coastal storms of Whispering Pines. The Larkspur Inn keeps its own Light—an age-old, quiet force that stirs when lies are told and danger draws near. The last thing she expected on her first night was to find a corpse cooling in the parlor.
It turns out local real-estate developer Victor Hargrave had a talent for turning smiles into grudges—and someone was willing to kill him for it. When a Pacific cyclone traps everyone inside, Maggie must rely on her instincts, her psychic gray tabby cat, and her moonstone pendant, which warms at deception to solve the mystery.
The deeper she digs, the more the Light stirs, revealing secrets the guests hoped the storm would hide.
Inn manager Dana Harlow still keeps the ledger Victor “helped” her balance—each missing dollar a warning in ink. Handyman Cole Whitaker stopped repairing Victor’s roofs after being stiffed twice. And chef Hal Carmichael? Victor meddled with his kitchen and his pride—and Hal never forgot. Everyone swears they never wanted him dead.
As thunder shakes the cliffs and old ledgers expose a dark history of greed, Maggie must uncover the truth before dawn. Because if she fails, the Light protecting Whispering Pines may finally go dark—and Maggie could be its last keeper.
